Master of Islamic Banking FEB Holds International Journal Quality Scientific Writing Training

Ciputat (22/06/2022) – Master Program in Islamic Banking, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah held a Training of International Journal Quality Scientific Writing. The training took place via the Zoom Meeting Online platform from 08.00-12.00 which was immediately opened by Ali Rahmat, SE, Sharia Banking Student.

The welcoming speech was delivered directly by the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, FEB Dr. Titi Dewi Warninda, SE, M. Si where she said that this scientific paper writing training was aimed at improving the quality of writing from both lecturers and students, thus leading to an increase in quality scientific publications in international journals. Then followed by a keynote speech from the Chancellor of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, namely Prof. Dr. Hj. Amany Lubis, MA. who also expressed the desire to produce more international scientific works because competition between universities is getting tougher, especially in the fields of science and technology. There is hope for the master of Islamic banking to develop knowledge of Islamic banking more broadly, not only in Indonesia but also in foreign countries.

Before entering the presentation and discussion session, the moderator took over the event, namely the Head of the Islamic Banking Masters Program FEB Nur Hidayah, M.A., Ph.D. The Scientific Writing Training which was conducted online presented a resource person, namely Dr. Ascarya MBA, MSc as Senior Research Bank Indonesia & Editor of the Journal of Islamic Monetary Economics and Finance which contains material on scientific writing so that later it can be published in international journals.

In writing scientific papers, according to sources, there is one thing that is important but often forgotten, namely the purpose of writing the research, such as the discussion of what the research means, who is the target audience for, and the contribution of the research must also be carefully considered. So it would be nice if doing a research refer to the journals with the highest index.

The data used must be in accordance with the research to be carried out. The standard methodology for research at IEF includes qualitative methods and quantitative methods. Quantitative methods include methods for various types of data, including cross-section, time series and pooled or panel. Another concern in conducting research is when the results do not match the theory or hypothesis of previous research. However, this is not a problem because basically the results of the research are the output of the analysis of the resulting figures. So it could be a novelty for our research.

At the end of the training, the resource person said that the scientific work was not to be commercialized. Then choose the right journal, if the study is a quantitative journal, choose a journal that usually accepts quantitative. Likewise with qualitative journals, choose a journal that also usually accepts qualitative. So adjust our study with a place to submit the journal and follow the procedure. The thing that is no less important is choosing a topic that is our passion because if you do writing according to your abilities, it will not complicate the research writing process.

Ciputat (30/05/2022) – Master Program in Sharia Banking Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah held a General Study with the theme “Policies and Strategies for Developing Sharia Banking in Indonesia: Between Margers, Spin Offs, and Conversions”.

The activity took place via the Zoom Meeting Online platform from 07.30-12.10 and was opened with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Prof. Dr. Amilin, SE., Ak., M. Si. Then continued with the Opening Speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Hj. Amany Lubis, MA as Chancellor of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, represented by Deputy Chancellor 4 Prof. Dr. Lily Soraya Eka Putri. Karim, SE, MBA, MA as President Commissioner of Bank Syariah Indonesia, and Haizir Sulaiman as President Director of Bank Aceh Syariah.

The activity was continued with an introduction to the discussion which was delivered directly by the Head of the Islamic Banking Masters Study Program FEB Nur Hidayah, M.A., Ph.D. who said that to increase the market share of Islamic banking, where Islamic banking itself has developed for 3 decades from 1992 with the birth of Bank Muamalat Indonesia as the first Islamic bank in Indonesia. However, it should be noted that during this time the development of Islamic banking has been relatively slow. Several strategies have been pursued by the government to support the development of Islamic banking by seeing that Indonesia has tremendous potential, with the largest Muslim country in the world. This extraordinary potential needs to be worked on seriously, so that the portion of Islamic banking, other Islamic financial institutions, and the Islamic economy can become hosts in their own country.

This general studium activity aims to increase knowledge, insight, and understanding of the academic community of FEB UIN Jakarta in particular, and the entire audience, in general, about contemporary issues in the development of Islamic banking in Indonesia.

This workshop also discussed that Smart PLS is an application that is suitable for a qualitative approach but the data is quantitative. The presenters also gave the advantages of Smart PLS including: 1) PLS was developed as an alternative to structural equation modeling whose basic theory is weak, 2) There is a classical assumption test when using SPSS, while Smart PLS does not need classical assumption testing, 3) The data used does not have to be normally distributed , 4) A small amount of data for example below 30 can be used in Smart PLS and the calculation results are still valid, 5) Can cover some shortcomings in SPSS.

Not only that, in Smart PLS there are various terms for naming variables, namely: Exogenous Variables, Endogenous Variables, Latent Variables, Reflective Variables, Formative Variables.

At the end of this workshop, the presenter conveyed the difference between the mediator variable (intervening) and the moderator variable. At the end of the Workshop, the event was closed with a prayer reading by Atta Amrullah and ended with an online group photo session.
