Coaching Clinic for Undergraduate Thesis Proposal
Coaching Clinic for Undergraduate Thesis Proposal
Tuesday, November 16, 2021, the Education Laboratory Institution of FEB UIN Jakarta held a coaching clinic for undergraduate thesis proposals with the topic of accounting. This activity is held to facilitate students who will enter the proposal seminar stage to be able to write a good thesis proposal and in accordance with the rules of scientific writing. The resource persons for this activity were Fitri Yani Jalil, M.Sc. and moderated by Nur Wachidah Yulianti, both of whom are lecturers in the accounting study program at FEB UIN Jakarta. In this activity, the resource persons explained the technical details of the preparation of the thesis proposal from chapter 1 to chapter 3. In addition to explaining the details of the writing rules per chapter, the resource persons explained the mistakes that often occurred in proposal writing. Among the mistakes that often occur are not having a main reference, getting stuck on references to articles published in journals with no national or international reputation, and even using senior thesis that has not been published as a reference. In addition to academic and scientific aspects, social and personal aspects also affect the smooth process of writing a thesis. The resource person said that a good research is a completed research. Meanwhile, there are many things that might interfere with the smooth process of preparing student thesis. Oftentimes, students who are working are unfocused and their guidance process falters so that their thesis is never finished. So, focus and consistency are the main keys in the smooth process of writing a thesis. In the question and answer session, participants asked what if the thesis title was rejected because it had been researched frequently, and the issue of how accounting research distinguished from other study program topics was also raised. The resource person emphasized that students should not be afraid to start writing a thesis, make sure that there is a different approach offered in our thesis as a differentiator from previous research. The update can be in the form of different methods, different research scopes, different variables, and so on. In addition, to ensure that the research carried out is still within the scope of accounting, students need to strengthen the research background in chapter 1 and explain in more detail that the topic raised is still within the scope of accounting research. Finally, the resource person advised that students should be more active during guidance as proof of their commitment to the seriousness of students to complete the thesis as a form of final assignment to determine student graduation. The activity went smoothly with about 28 participants and the discussion was very intense and provided a lot of insight for students. This Coaching Clinic activity will be held for all study programs at FEB UIN Jakarta in stages.
