Arief Fitrijanto: OBE Urges Faculty to Focus on What Students Are Capable of Doing
Jakarta, May 8, 2026. Dr. Arief Fitrijanto, M.Si, Head of the Development Economics Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, stated that the implementation of an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum will require faculty members to focus on what students are capable of doing. Arief conveyed this during an OBE-based curriculum workshop organized by STAI Al Hikmah in South Jakarta. “OBE requires us to use Backward Design. We start by defining the graduate profile, deriving the Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs), and then designing active learning strategies. Every classroom activity must have a direct correlation with the competencies we aim to achieve,” Arief explained while presenting his material.
This online event was opened by the President of STAI DI Al-Hikmah, Dr. Muqoddam Cholil, MA. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of adapting the curriculum to the latest regulations (SN-Dikti) to ensure that graduates possess competitiveness relevant to the needs of industry and the community. He expressed hope that this workshop would serve as a foundation for all study programs to establish more measurable educational standards.
This dynamic workshop was led by Dr. Derysmono, Lc., MA. (First Vice Chair for Academic Affairs at STAI DI Al-Hikmah) as moderator, with Dr. Arief Fitrijanto, M.Si. as the keynote speaker. Arief Fitrijanto, who is also an econometrics lecturer, is committed to assisting and collaborating with STAI Al Hikmah in the sustainable implementation of OBE. (AC)
