Bridging Theory and Industry Practice: UIN Jakarta’s Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Islamic Economics Program Hosts Maybank Indonesia’s Head of Sharia Transactions for Its “Practitioners in the Classroom” Program

Ciputat, May 18, 2026 – The Islamic Economics Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta successfully held a “Practitioners in the Classroom” event on Monday, May 18, 2026. This academic event was held in person at the FEB Building, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Campus, Jalan Ibnu Sina, Ciputat.
This activity, which is directly integrated with the Islamic Financial Management course, featured an expert speaker from the national Islamic banking industry sector, namely Rendra Setiawan, who serves as Head of Sharia Transactions at Maybank Indonesia (Sharia Business Unit/UUS). This collaborative lecture was led directly by the course instructor, Dr. Ady Cahyadi, SE., M.Si., CRMP.

During an interactive lecture session, Rendra Setiawan presented an in-depth analysis of the roadmap for contemporary financial transactions, liquidity management, functional risk mitigation strategies in Islamic banks, and the practical implementation of current banking industry policies. This presentation, based on real-world case studies, provided students with new tactical insights into the operational complexities of Islamic financial institutions.
The Head of the Islamic Economics Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Ali Rama, Ph.D., welcomed the event and emphasized the importance of strategic collaboration between academia and industry players.

“This ‘Practitioners in the Classroom’ initiative is a structured, regular program in our department designed to strike a balanced ratio between theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom and practical application in the industry. This strategic initiative is crucial for enhancing the competitive edge and job readiness of graduates from the Islamic Economics Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, UIN Jakarta, so they can compete on a global scale,” said Ali Rama, Ph.D.
The presence of top-tier practitioners from banking institutions such as Maybank Indonesia is expected to bridge the competency gap between the academic world and the needs of the executive job market (link and match). Through this dynamic interaction, students not only master the theoretical foundations of finance on paper but also understand the urgency of adapting to technology, Sharia compliance regulations, and real-world business dynamics.

The Islamic Economics Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, is fully committed to continuing to expand its network of partnerships with various leading Islamic financial institutions. This initiative is being undertaken to ensure that the academic environment at the FEB campus on Jalan Ibnu Sina remains relevant, competitive, and responsive to the evolving trends in Islamic banking and finance in the modern era.
