Encouraging Faster Study Periods, Sharia Banking Doctoral Program Holds Dissertation Writing Bootcamp

Jakarta, January 31, 2026. The Doctoral Program (S3) in Islamic Banking at the Faculty of Economics and Business, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held a Dissertation Writing Bootcamp, which took place in a hybrid format in the Meeting Room on the 2nd floor of FEB UIN Jakarta and via the Zoom platform. This intensive activity, which runs from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. WIB, features professors and lecturers from the Islamic Banking S3 Homebase as resource persons to provide comprehensive guidance to students in completing their dissertations. The activity was attended by 38 Islamic Banking S3 students.

The bootcamp was led by Prof. Dr. Nur Hidayah, M.Ag. as the Head of the Study Program and Rahmawati, PhD. as the Secretary of the Study Program, who accompanied the students throughout the event. In her speech, Prof. Nur Hidayah emphasized the importance of students fulfilling all academic requirements and progressing according to the established study timeline. “We encourage students to not only focus on completing their dissertations, but also to fulfill their scientific publication obligations, which are a requirement for graduation. Publication in indexed journals is an integral part of the academic process that must be fulfilled,” said Prof. Nur Hidayah.

Meanwhile, Rahmawati, Ph.D. gave a comprehensive presentation on student progress data and emphasized the importance of commitment in completing studies. “The data shows that students who consistently attend guidance sessions and meet academic milestones have a greater chance of completing their studies on time. Commitment and discipline are the keys to success,” said Rahmawati, Ph.D.

Prof. Dr. Euis Amalia, M.Ag. outlined the standards and criteria for writing a high-quality dissertation that meets doctoral-level academic expectations. She emphasized the importance of research originality, theoretical and practical contributions, and writing systematics in accordance with academic guidelines. “A quality dissertation not only meets graduation requirements but also makes a real contribution to the development of knowledge and Islamic banking practices,” said Prof. Euis.

Prof. Dr. KH. Cholil Nafis, M.A. thoroughly discusses contemporary issues in Islamic banking and finance that can be relevant and up-to-date research topics. He also shares effective strategies for completing studies on time, including time management, research strategies, and managing academic obstacles. “Understanding contemporary issues such as Islamic fintech, green sukuk, and the digitization of Islamic banking will make your dissertation more relevant and impactful,” explained Prof. Cholil.

Prof. Dr. Ahmad Rodoni, M.M. provides in-depth guidance on rigorous research methodologies for doctoral-level research. The material covered research design, quantitative and qualitative approaches, mixed methods, sampling techniques, research instruments, and data analysis. “A solid methodology is the foundation of a strong dissertation. Ensure that your methodology is appropriate for your research question and scientifically accountable,” emphasized Prof. Ahmad.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Said, M.Ag. shared practical tips and proven strategies for completing doctoral studies according to the set timeline. He emphasized the importance of careful planning, consistency in guidance, and proactivity in overcoming obstacles. “Many students experience delays because they don't have a clear roadmap. Create a detailed timeline and stick to the milestones that have been set,” advised Prof. Said.

Prof. Ir. M. Nadratuzzaman Hosen, Ph.D. provided intensive training on the use of analytical tools for dissertation research, including statistical software (SPSS, SmartPLS, AMOS), qualitative software (NVivo), and other analysis tools. "Mastering the right analytical tools will speed up the data analysis process and improve the quality of research results. Investing time to learn these tools is very worth it," said Prof. Hosen.

The bootcamp closed with an interactive discussion session between students and the Head of the Study Program and the Secretary of the Study Program. In this session, students had the opportunity to consult on the progress of their dissertations, discuss the obstacles they faced, and obtain strategic directions for the next stages.

Several students expressed high appreciation for this bootcamp activity. “This bootcamp has been very helpful in mapping out our dissertation completion roadmap. The material presented is highly practical and can be directly implemented,” said Edian Fahmi.

Through this intensive bootcamp, students are not only equipped with technical knowledge about writing dissertations, but also encouraged to develop comprehensive strategies to ensure the successful completion of their doctoral studies. These strategies cover academic aspects (writing and publishing), methodological aspects (research rigor), and managerial aspects (time management and milestone achievement).

The FEB UIN Jakarta Sharia Banking Doctoral Program is committed to continuing to provide maximum support to students through various mentoring and capacity building activities such as this boot camp. With the support of experienced professors and a structured mentoring system, it is hoped that students will be able to complete their studies on time and produce dissertations that contribute significantly to the development of sharia banking science in Indonesia.
