FEB UIN Jakarta students visited the Mekong River Delta in Vietnam to see MSMEs cultivating honey, pandanus, coconuts, and processing bamboo and coconut stems into textile materials.
Mekong River Delta, November 20, 2025. The Mekong Delta is a region in southern Vietnam formed at the mouth of the Mekong River into the South China Sea. This region is very fertile and economically important. The Mekong Delta also witnessed one of the fiercest battles during the Vietnam War. To get there from Ho Chi Minh City, take the Yrung Luong Toll Road for approximately 3 hours. Upon arrival at the port in My Tho City, continue by boat along the large river, approximately 3 kilometers wide, to Thoi Son Island, a 20-minute journey in the middle of the river.

On this island, 24 students, two lecturers, and several representatives from the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City were warmly welcomed by a beekeeping and honey cultivation business, as well as a chocolate processing and pandan plant farming business center.

The students were then taken to a tour of how coconuts are processed into a variety of delicious and indulgent dishes. After being treated to a variety of MSME offerings, the delegates returned to the port aboard small boats, a famous icon of the Mekong Delta.

Riding these small boats or canoes down the small river to the port was a truly amazing and thrilling experience, and was naturally crowded with tourists from various countries.

Upon arrival, the students boarded a large motorboat bound for My Tho Harbor.

In My Tho, the students were taken to a MSME production site where bamboo and coconut stalks are processed into high-quality and valuable textiles. The students were amazed and impressed by the creativity of Vietnamese MSMEs. They were presented with a presentation on how bamboo and coconut stalks are processed from raw materials into yarn, then into clothing and other highly valuable and rare textiles. "This is truly amazing," said Faris, a student participating in the student mobility program. (AH)
