International Lab Living The Mini-Social Enterprise for Economic Development (Mini-SEED) 2024 at Prince of Songkla University Pattani Campus, Thailand

Friday, 16th of August 2024, 8 undergraduate students became delegates of the Faculty of Economics and Business of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta at the Mini-Social Enterprise for Economic Development (Mini-SEED) Thailand 2024. There are Raghnal Fayzal Ramadhan from Management, Nisrina Sofiyana and Okta Amelinda from Accounting, Syamil Fatih Muhammad and Muhammad Rafi Atthariq from Shariah Economics, Adibatunnahdiyah and Rosa Dina from Shariah Banking, and Suci Anastasya Khuzaifa from Economics Development.  The Dean Prof. Dr. Ibnu Qizam, SE., M.Si., Ak., CA, Vice Dean 1 Zuhairan Yunmi Yunan, Ph.D., Vice Dean 2 Dr. Erika Amelia, S.E., M.Si., Vice Dean 3 Dr. Asyari Hasan, S.H.I., M.Ag., as well as supervising lecturer Cut Erika Ananda Fatimah, S.E., M.B.A, the head of Business Lab in FEB UIN Jakarta officially sent 8 students to Hat Yai, Thailand and departed on Sunday, 18th of August 2024. The entirety of the program was held for 7 days from 18th up to 24th of August 2024.

The Mini-Social Enterprise for Economic Development (Mini-SEED) program is an initiative that combines social goals with a business model to enhance the economic well-being of communities. This involves efforts aimed at solving social or environmental problems while generating revenue for the sustainability of the enterprise. The approach focuses on creating positive social impact while also generating economic opportunities and empowering communities. Through the use of social entrepreneurship, this outstanding program promotes economic advancement by the collaboration of students from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand to work together, research, and create company ideas in real time. In this year’s Mini-SEED event, there are 50 students from various universities taking part in this program. The other universities that partake in this event are UNTIRTA, Universiti Malaya and Prince of Songkla University.

After the arrival at PSU, an opening ceremony was held on the next day (19th of August 2024) along with the introduction and history of the SEED program. It was then followed by a village familiarization session where participants are sent to five different business enterprises, each with unique products to survey. These five enterprises are Thai Sweetmeat and Stingless Bee Honey at Saiburi, Puffed Rice at Yaring, Salad Vegetables at Puyud, and Mangrove Tourism at Bana. On the next day (20th of August 2024), the participants had a workshop on design thinking and business lean canvas to prepare their business plan to improve village enterprises.

Two days later (22nd of August 2024), participants must prepare for their business presentation for the following day using the data and materials from the previous day. The business presentation is held on the next morning (23rd of August) where each group must present their new business plan to the judges. The programs concluded with an awards and closing ceremony that honored the students' outstanding achievements. Each group received recognition for their distinctive contributions, and awards like the top one to five motivated them to keep making a positive difference in social entrepreneurship. The first place winners are from two groups which are the Mangrove Tourism project and the Stingless Honey Bee farm.

After that, all participants and committees leave for Satun for a night party and go rafting and shopping at the night market the next day (24th of August 2024).
