Opening Research Camp Activities, Dean Says Student Publications Are Important Indicators of Academic Maps
Jakarta, 19 November 2025 — Sharia Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta officially opened the 2025 International Student Research Camp with the theme “From Classroom to Journal Room — Penetrating the World Publication from Thesis”. The activity, which was held in the FEB 2 Meeting Room, was designed in four sessions with different sources from within and outside the country, and will last for four days, namely on November 19, November 20, November 25 and December 8 2025. These four sessions were designed to provide comprehensive mentoring from a basic understanding of the publication to the practice of compiling manuscripts.
Dean of FEB UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Ibnu Qizam, in his speech, expressed his high appreciation to the Sharia Economics Study Program for the initiative to organize this strategic activity. He emphasized that improving the quality of student publications is an important indicator in strengthening UIN Jakarta's position in the national and global academic map. “Student publications are an important indicator in the national and global academic map of UIN Jakarta. Strengthening UIN Jakarta's position and ranking in the international arena such as the QS World University Ranking”, said the Dean.
The Head of the Sharia Economics Study Program, Ali Rama, PhD, in his opening remarks said that this activity had two main targets: accelerating the student graduation period and increasing the number of thesis-based student publications. By presenting professional speakers in the fields of research and publications, this camp is expected to be able to build an academic culture that encourages students to more actively contribute to scientific literature.
Ali Rama also introduced four main resource persons who will fill the 2025 International Research Camp, namely:
• Dr. Olatunji Abdul Shobande (Hartwick College, USA & Research Fellow UIN Jakarta)
• Dr. Malika Ouacha (Adj. Assistant Professor, Zakat Foundation Institute, USA & Research Fellow Erasmus University, Netherlands)
• Mohamad Soleh Nurzaman, PhD (Deputy Director KNEKS & Associate Professor FEB UI)
• Dr. Zuhairan Yumni Yunan (FEB UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Lecturer)
The four presenters will share insights regarding research development, scientific publication strategies, and tips and tricks for penetrating reputable journals. Apart from the presentation session, students will also be accompanied by a team of coaches tasked with ensuring the quality of scientific writing, methodological consistency, and manuscript completion in accordance with international academic standards.
This camp was attended by 35 selected students, namely 7th semester students who passed a strict selection based on the quality of the title and thesis proposal submitted through the Research Seminar course. Their presence shows the study program's commitment to strengthening research competency from the initial stages of preparing the thesis.
In Session 1, presenting presenter Mohamad Soleh Nurzaman, PhD, students gain an important understanding of the urgency of scientific publications and the strategic process of preparing research so that it is suitable for publication. Soleh provided a comprehensive explanation of the publication steps and held interactive discussions with students. He reviewed several of the participants' research titles and provided input regarding simplification and sharpening of focus to conform to scientific journal standards. This session was moderated by Dimantin Rohadatul Aisy, lecturer at the Sharia Economics Study Program.
Zahro, a 7th semester student, conveyed his positive impression of this activity. “Very happy to be able to take part in this activity. This activity provides direction on how to turn a thesis into a good publication in a reputable journal. Starting from selecting the thesis title to publication. The discussion was exciting”, said Zahro excitedly.
The 2025 International Student Research Camp is expected to become a strategic forum in building a stronger, more focused and impactful student research ecosystem, as well as affirming the commitment of the FEB UIN Jakarta Sharia Economics Study Program in producing graduates with superior and productive academic abilities in scientific publications (AR/AC).
