SOUTH TANGERANG, August 6, 2026 — The Development Economics Student Association (HMPS) of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta successfully held "Welmab 2" (New Student Welcoming Event 2) on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the New FEB Datar Theater, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. This event was part of the ongoing welcoming series for the Class of 2026, aimed at equipping new students with insights, motivation, and a leadership spirit to prepare them for their academic journey in higher education.

Carrying the theme "The Next Generation: Empowering Leaders Through Education, Scholarship, & Organization," Welmab 2 was designed as a learning platform that encourages new students to understand the importance of education, academic achievement, and organizational experience as the three key pillars in shaping a generation of future leaders. This theme reflects the HMPS Development Economics' commitment to preparing students who are not only academically excellent but also possess leadership qualities, collaborative skills, and a sense of care for their surrounding environment.

Higher education serves as a space for students to develop their full potential. Beyond acquiring knowledge in the classroom, students are expected to actively cultivate critical thinking, communication, leadership, and teamwork skills through various academic and organizational activities. Therefore, Welmab 2 is intended to serve as a starting point for new students to begin exploring the various opportunities for personal development available to them while pursuing their studies in the Development Economics program.  "Through Welmab 2, we aim to show new students that university life is not merely about classroom learning; it is also about character building, enhancing personal capacity, and utilizing student organizations as a platform for growth and making a positive impact," stated a representative of the Welmab 2026 Organizing Committee.

The event series ran from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM WIB, beginning with participant registration, the opening ceremony, and welcoming remarks from the Organizing Committee Chair, the Head of the Development Economics Student Association (HMPS), and the Head of the Development Economics Study Program. The program continued with an inspiring sharing session, an interactive Q&A, certificate presentation, a group photo, a break for prayer and lunch (ISHOMA), a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), games, a sing-along session, the announcement of the "Best Costume" award, the closing ceremony, and a content-gathering session for event documentation.

Key Highlights of the Welmab 2 Event Series:
1. Opening Ceremony: Participant registration, the opening, and welcoming remarks from the Organizing Committee Chair, the HMPS Chair, and the Study Program Head; these served to launch the event series while motivating the new students.

2. Sharing Session & Q&A: A presentation by guest speakers on the importance of education, academic achievement, and student organizations as a foundation for leadership development, followed by an interactive discussion with participants.

3. Focus Group Discussion (FGD): Group discussions aimed at honing critical thinking, communication, and idea-sharing skills, as well as fostering teamwork in addressing specific topics.

4. Games & Sing-along: Activities designed to strengthen bonds among new students, build camaraderie, and create a warm, enjoyable atmosphere.  5. Appreciation and Closing: Presentation of certificates to speakers, announcement of the "Best Costume" winner, a group photo, the event's conclusion, and a content-gathering session to document the Welmab 2 proceedings.

Through the organization of Welmab 2 (Welcoming New Students 2), the Development Economics Student Association hopes that all new students of the Class of 2026 will embark on their academic journeys with a strong passion for learning, the courage to engage in organizational activities, and the motivation to continuously develop their personal potential. It is hoped that this event serves as a starting point for shaping a generation of leaders who are outstanding, possess integrity, are adaptable, and are ready to make tangible contributions to future economic and societal development.(EP)
