Preserving Indonesian Culture, 14 FEB UIN Jakarta Students Learn Batik in Laweyan Solo
Surakarta, December 6, 2025. In order to support the preservation of indigenous Indonesian culture, 14 FEB UIN Syarif Hidayatullah students learned batik in the Laweyan Batik Village in Solo. The 14 students are M. Fadhil Azhim, M. Adhnan Zulfikar, Viola Kamaylia, Alisya Firdausi, M. Zamahsyari, Aliyah Rahma, Fasma Syagina, Zalfa Putri, Arya Ramadhan, Isye Roehani, Asti Annisa, Amin Al Ayubi, Windy Kamila, and Yahya Ayyasy.
As Gen Z who want everything to be fast, the activity of “batik” is very challenging because it requires a high level of patience. “As Gen Z who want everything to be fast, the activity of batik is an extraordinary challenge because it combines beautiful art and patience,” said Asti, a 5th semester student of the Sharia Banking study program. In line with Asti, one of the participants from the accounting program, Muhammad Fadhil, expressed positive impressions of this MBKM activity. “It's wonderful to gain new experiences. Learning batik and receiving extensive knowledge about the process of selecting batik fabric, production, and marketing of finished products, directly from the owner of the Laweyan batik business,” said Fadhil, who was coloring batik fabric.
The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Sofyan Rizal, who accompanied the MBKM Surakarta activity, said that in addition to academic activities, this activity in Solo was an effort to instill a love and preservation of Indonesia's indigenous culture. “With the MBKM Surakarta activity, we introduce our students to and encourage them to preserve Indonesia's indigenous culture, namely batik,” said Sofyan.
