Reminding the Dangers of Online Loans, AFSI Director Explains Sharia Peer-to-Peer Financing

Jakarta, October 15, 2025. The Sharia Economics Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held a Practitioner Teaching event. This event featured the Director of Programs and Partnerships at the Indonesian Sharia Fintech Association (AFSI), M. Handika Surbakti. The theme of the practitioner teaching event, which was held at the FEB Building on Jalan Ibnu Sina, was “Sharia P2P Financing Fintech Business Models,” with Dwi Nuraini Ichsan, who is also a lecturer teaching the Sharia Fintech course at FEB UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, serving as the moderator.
The Head of the Sharia Economics Study Program, Ali Rama PhD, welcomed this teaching practitioner event as it is an important activity to broaden students' knowledge. “Teaching practitioners are a regular agenda of the Sharia economics study program where business people and practitioners provide practical insights to students about financial technology, which is rapidly developing in Indonesia,” Ali emphasized.

In his presentation, Handika said that Financial Technology (Fintech) is a form of technology-based financial innovation that produces new business models, applications, processes, or products. Meanwhile, Sharia Fintech is fintech that conducts its business activities in accordance with Sharia principles. Handika also said that many Gen Zers are trapped in online loans (pinjol). “Many Gen Zers are entangled in pinjol. 42% of Gen Zers use pinjol to pay for their daily needs. This must be watched out for and anticipated by students,” Handika warned.
Dwi Nuraini Ichsan, the discussion moderator and also a lecturer teaching the Sharia Fintech course, conveyed the importance of this activity as a form of student lecture practice. “In this practitioner-led teaching session, we invited AFSI to directly educate students in the Fintech class about the business model of Sharia P2P Financing and as an effort to remind Gen Z, especially FEB UIN Jakarta students, of the dangers of online loans,” said the alumnus of the Sharia Banking Doctoral Program at FEB.
The practitioner-led teaching activity concluded with a friendly gathering and group photo. (AC)
