Sharia Economics Study Program: Researching the Dompet Dhuafa Farming Village
Jakarta, 27 April 2024 – Sharia Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University, Jakarta, is collaborating with the Social Trust Fund and Dompet Dhuafa in a research on the economic impact of the Dompet Dhuafa Farmer Village program. Tani Village, which was launched in December 2018, is a community empowerment initiative based on horticultural agriculture with the aim of improving the quality of harvests, agricultural production, income of beneficiary farmers, and building integrated horticultural agricultural management. This program has provided benefits to 52 beneficiaries until September 2022 and covers an area of 10 hectares.
Research and Field Activities
In order to study the economic impact of the Tani Village program, Dompet Dhuafa collaborated with the Sharia Economics Study Program and the Social Trust Fund, which was realized in the form of student thesis research with Tani Village as the object of study. Firda Aulia, an 8th semester student from the Sharia Economics Study Program, focused on researching the economic independence and food security of the partner mustahik of Tani Dompet Dhuafa Village. Meanwhile, Shindy Sheptianingsih focused on analyzing the effectiveness of the Tani Village cooperative in supporting mustahik empowerment through a productive zakat program. Apart from these two students, there were three other students, including from the Sharia Economics Masters Study Program with different research themes.
The students conducted field research in Tani Dompet Dhuafa Village which was held from 25 to 27 April 2024, located in Cipanjalu Village, Cilengkrang District, Bandung Regency, West Java Province. Activities in the field include direct interviews with Tani Village farmers who are classified as mustahik, interviews with the Tani Village Cooperative administrators regarding the productive zakat empowerment program, as well as observations of facilities such as the Packing House, Seedling House, Saprodi (fertilizer) House, and Green House.
Assistance and Supervision
This student research received assistance from supervisors. Ali Rama, Ph.D., as the main supervisor and also Head of the Sharia Economics Study Program, together with Dr. Erika Amelia, made a direct visit to the Tani Village. They saw directly the activities of the farming partners in the Farming Village. During the field visit, the FEB lecturer team was accompanied by a team from Dompet Dhuafa who provided an explanation of the history, programs and value of assets managed in the Tani Village program.
Ali Rama, Ph.D., said that this research activity is a form of cooperation and collaboration between the Sharia Economics Study Program and industry, in this case Dompet Dhuafa, to develop sharia economic activities in society.
