The PLP and the Management Program Host a Guest Lecture on Design Thinking with a Lecturer from Binus University
Ciputat, June 3, 2026. The Faculty of Economics and Business at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, through a collaboration between Lab Living (the Educational Laboratory Unit) and the Management Study Program, held a Design Thinking Guest Lecture titled “Prototyping for Innovative Product Development” on Wednesday (June 3). This event was attended by all second-semester students in the Management Study Program who are taking the Design Thinking course. Also present were the course instructors, Ela Patriana, Cut Erika, and Jayanti Budiman, who also served as moderators during the event.
Featuring Yusaira Farhia, S.Sn., M.Sn., a lecturer in Visual Communication Design at Binus University, the event provided insights into how an idea can be developed into a valuable solution and product. Through the example of the local brand Sakombu, which has successfully gained recognition in international markets, students were encouraged to understand that a product’s success depends not only on innovation but also on the value it can provide to users. A good product is one that stems from an understanding of human needs and is capable of providing tangible benefits to its users.
In this workshop, students were introduced to the stages of Design Thinking, which include empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. This approach helps students understand the systematic process of idea development, from identifying problems to testing the resulting solutions. Through this activity, the Faculty of Economics and Business at UIN Jakarta hopes that students can develop a creative, innovative, and user-centered mindset so that they are able to create solutions that are relevant to society and the business world in the future.
