UIN Jakarta Accounting Students Participate in the 2024 International Islamic Economic Summer Class
Surakarta, October 1, 2024 – Three Accounting students from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta joined the 2024 International Islamic Economic Summer Class, hosted by the Faculty of Islamic Business and Economics at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. This 13-day event, running from October 1 to 13, is part of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, which aims to enhance students’ skills in Islamic economics on an international stage.
The Accounting students representing UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in this program are Siti Nurhaliza, Tiona Purnama Sari, and Nessa Adeleida Banowati. They participated alongside students from other countries, including Ylvia Namagembe from Uganda, Zander Broad Klient L. Sasamu from the Philippines, Fatoumatta Gasama from Gambia, Irfan Fadhila Y from Turkey, Mohammed Abdullah Hussein Humaidhah, and Nader Hassan Ahmed Al Wahbani from Yemen. Additionally, students from various Islamic universities in Indonesia, such as UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta, UIN Tulungagung, UIN Pekalongan, UIN Jember, UIN Salatiga, and IAIN Kudus, were also involved.
Valuable International Experience
Throughout the International Islamic Economic Summer Class 2024, students received a variety of learning materials and hands-on experiences related to Islamic economics, Sharia-compliant business, and their applications in various industry sectors. In addition to classroom learning, they had the opportunity to visit Sharia-based business industries, participate in training sessions, and engage in community service activities with the local community.
Siti Nurhaliza, one of the Accounting students from FEB UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, shared her thoughts, saying, “This event provided us with invaluable insights into how Islamic economics is applied globally and how we can contribute to the development of a more inclusive and sustainable economy.”
Activities and Events
The main activities included training on the Business Model Canvas, an industry visit to Hebitren (Himpunan Ekonomi dan Bisnis Pesantren) at a local Islamic boarding school in partnership with UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta, and a cultural tour that emphasized the importance of cultural preservation and the role of the creative economy in supporting local economies.
Another highlight was their participation in the International Community Social Work session, where students engaged in cross-cultural discussions and exchanged ideas on global economic issues. This session aimed to foster international collaboration and strengthen global academic networks.
Awards and Certificates
At the end of the event, all participants received certificates as a token of appreciation for their active involvement in the International Islamic Economic Summer Class 2024. These certificates are expected to serve as proof of the students' participation in an international program, supporting their future career opportunities.

Future Hope
With the program concluded, the students hope to apply the knowledge and experiences gained in their future academic and professional endeavors. “This experience has not only enriched our knowledge but has also broadened our perspectives on the importance of Islamic economics in sustainable development in today’s globalized world,” said Tiona Purnama Sari.
This event serves as a testament to the support provided by the MBKM program, encouraging Indonesian students to actively participate at an international level and contribute to the global economy through an Islamic perspective.
