UIN Jakarta’s Sharia Economics Study Program Hosts International Student Research Camp 2026, Encouraging Students to Reach International Journals
Jakarta, October 15, 2026 — The Sharia Economics Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held the International Student Research Camp 2026, themed “From Idea to Impact: Building Your Skripsi for International Publication,” at the Teater Datar in the new FEB building. The event featured two international academics: Dr. Malika Ouacha from Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and Dr. Olatundji Shobandi from Hartwick College, New York, United States.

Ali Rama, Ph.D., Head of the Sharia Economics Study Program, noted that this is the second edition of the event, following its successful debut last year. Unlike the previous year, both speakers were present in person at UIN Jakarta.
“This event reflects the Sharia Economics Study Program’s commitment to strengthening internationalization and enhancing the quality of student research. We want students to engage directly with international researchers, gain insights into crafting robust thesis proposals, and learn how to develop their thesis findings into scholarly articles suitable for publication in international journals,” said Ali Rama.
In the first session, Dr. Malika Ouacha discussed the importance of identifying research gaps, conducting critical literature reviews, and formulating research questions to build high-quality thesis proposals. Meanwhile, Dr. Olatundji Shobandi explained strategies for transforming thesis research into scholarly articles, emphasizing research contributions, writing structure, and the publication standards required by international journals.

Andika, a seventh-semester student in the Sharia Economics Study Program, responded positively to the event. “This program is incredibly useful for those of us currently preparing our theses. We received practical advice on drafting research proposals, as well as insights on how to develop our thesis work into articles that can be published in reputable journals,” he shared. Through this activity, the Islamic Economics Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of UIN Jakarta hopes that students will be better prepared to produce high-quality research, expand their international academic networks, and contribute to the development of Islamic economics on a global scale (AR).
